Obituary of Ronald Arthur Goodwin
On October 19, 2024, Ronald Arthur Goodwin, beloved husband of Patricia Goodwin of Red Deer, passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre following a lengthy illness he bravely fought.
Ron was born on March 2, 1930 in Lorneville, Nova Scotia, to Hance and Emma Goodwin.
Ron spent his childhood at the family farm at Lorneville before moving to Amherst. He was employed by Enheat Ltd. in Amherst, Nova Scotia, and Amherst Aerospace for 38 years as an industrial electrician. He and Patricia retired to BC in 1993. After living in Sorrento, BC, they moved to Cardston, AB, where they spent much time doing temple work in the LDS temple at Cardston. A move to Rocky Mountain House to be closer to family came in 2015, and they have been in Red Deer since 2020.
Later in his retirement, Ron began indexing for the LDS church’s genealogy library, transcribing information from archival vital statistics documents from all over the world so that the information could be added to a genealogical database that allows people to search for their ancestors. Over his years doing this, he accomplished an amazing 400,000 transcriptions. He was also able to add over 5,000 names to the Goodwin family genealogy tree.
From the time he was a child, Ron loved being in nature. He spent much of his time in the woods hunting and loved fishing. In his retirement, he enjoyed going up in the mountains to beautiful lakes to fish.
Ron was a good man who lived faithfully in his religion and was a wonderful example to all those who knew him. He will be so sadly missed.
Ron will be sadly missed by his wife of 44 years, Patricia; daughter Charlene (Ken) Evans, Legal, AB; son David Goodwin, Clinton, BC, and step daughter Liane Huson (Jim Griffin) of Rocky Mountain House, AB. Together, Ron and Patricia shared many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Ron is also survived by his sisters Gwen King of Lorneville, Nova Scotia, and Eileen Lowe of Amherst, Nova Scotia.
Ron was predeceased by his son Gordon; daughter Valerie Gaudet; step sons David Huson and Stephen Huson; brother Clair Goodwin; sisters Audrey Baxter and Genevieve Burns, and Edward Trenholm.
A celebration of life for Ronald Goodwin has been held.
