John Kaare

Obituary of John Hansen Kaare

Our father John Hansen Kaare passed peacefully at the age of 93 at The Hamlets in Red Deer on August 28, 2024.

Dad was born and raised in Sønder Kirkeby, Falster, Denmark and was the eldest of Hans Emanuel Hansen and Anna Kristine Kaare’s four children – Grith, Inger-lise, and Elsebeth.

At age 19, fueled by ambition and dreams of a new life in Canada, he crossed the Atlantic and arrived at Pier 21 in Halifax. With only 20 dollars in his pocket, he landed in Ponoka where he began to build his future working on various farms across Central Alberta.

While working at Fogelvik Farms in Innisfail, John met Joyce, the love of his life. They married on July 4, 1956, in Red Deer and in their 67 years together they returned to Denmark many times, explored the globe from Israel to Alaska, and enjoyed countless rounds of golf.

For 35 years, John owned and operated Kaare’s Transport, a successful bulk milk hauling business that had routes up and down Highway Two.

Dad reveled in the simple joys of life like golfing and morning coffee with his buddies at the local A&W. But his greatest joy was beating everyone he ever played in card games like crib and bridge.

He was a man of few words, but when he spoke, his quick wit and sharp humor would be sure to catch you off guard and leave a lasting impression.

He will be dearly missed by his two daughters; Layna (Kelvin) and Lisa, his four grandchildren; Katie, Kaare (Kelsey), Emily and Kyler, his great grandson Krue, his three dear sisters; Grith, Inger-lise, and Elsebeth (Stan), along with numerous other family members, friends, neighbours and all who knew him.

John is now reunited with his loving wife, Joyce Kaare; his and Joyce’s baby boy Kurt and son-in-law Scott. It brings us great comfort in knowing he is with his loved ones on the other side.

John’s life was a testament to love, commitment, and enduring strength. We will miss his kind heart, gentle nature, and tell it like it is mentality.

In following with John’s wishes, no service will be held.

Condolences to John’s family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net. Please indicate “Kaare” in the subject line.
