Obituary of Mildred Ruth Murray
Our beloved Mildred Ruth Murray died peacefully on April 19, 2020 in her home at Revera Aspen Ridge, Red Deer. Born in Red Deer in 1929 to John (Jack) and Myrtle Sinclair, Mildred grew up in the Parkvale district and attended Central School and the Red Deer High School, graduating in 1947. In November of 1949, she married her high school sweetheart, James Robert (Jim) Murray and adjusted to life on their farm in the Crossroads district north of Red Deer. Mildred and Jim moved into Red Deer in 1991 and for many years she bicycled the paths of Waskasoo Park, often cycling out to the old farm and home again. They enjoyed fishing and camping in the summer and spent many winters in Arizona where they made another community of friends. Mildred was a loving character and she had a great sense of humour. She enjoyed listening to the radio and loved to sing, often entertaining others with her long repertoire of tunes from the 1940s to the 80s. Her powerful, piercing, signature whistle could round up the men from harvesting grain to their supper in minutes or bring any gathering to attention in an instant. She adored her family, especially her precious Jim. Mildred will be sadly missed by Jim, her loving husband of more than seventy years; her son, Dr. Sandy (Dorothy) Murray and daughter, Linda Murray all of Red Deer; grandsons Fraser Murray of Rome, Italy, Kolin Murray of Inuvik, Northwest Territories, James Turley of Edmonton and Lyle Turley of Red Deer and their families; plus many extended family members and friends. Mildred was predeceased by her sisters, Connie Billingsley of Cardston and Georgia Guy of Vancouver and her brother, Jim Sinclair of Red Deer. The family is thankful for the excellent care that Mildred received from the wonderful staff at Revera Aspen Ridge and from Dr. Morné Odendaal.
