Obituary of Lillian Mah
Lillian was born September 16, 1932, in the Canton Province of China. She came to Canada as a young woman.
She was an only child, so imagine her joy when she became the proud mom of four boys! They were her pride and joy. Lillian also became a grandma to 10 and great grandma to 5. She adored her grandchildren, enjoyed spending time with them, and loved to tell them stories about China. All in the family called her “Grandma,” but to her many friends she was known affectionately as “Lilly.” She was a kind, gentle, and generous person. She loved people and they loved her. Her cute questions were always “How are you?” or “Do you want to go for lunch?”
Grandma was also a fantastic authentic Chinese cook. She was extremely hospitable, and many remember going to her home for a meal. The grandchildren loved her fruit Jello, wonton soup, sticky rice, and shortbread cookies.
Grandma also had a beautiful garden she looked after for forty years. She kept it meticulous! We never figured out how she was able to grow such tall peas! The garden became a skating rink for the boys in the winter. Grandma also enjoyed being outside with a mission. Whether it was picking saskatoons in Red Deer, Strawberries in Sicamous, or even digging for clams in Parksville.
Grandma began to study the Bible in 1959. She devoted her life to serving Jehovah in 1972. She loved to be in the preaching work even though English was not her first language. She helped many to learn the truth and many of their family members are still serving Jehovah today.
Words cannot express what a great example she was to all of us. Her resiliency, despite adversity and at times poor health, never kept her down. She taught us all to work hard (especially for Jehovah), to keep life simple and to love our families fervently. Perhaps the most important thing she taught us was to always be loving, kind, and to show interest in others.
Lillian passed away peacefully June 30, 2024, surrounded by her boys and listening to Kingdom songs. The family would like to express our gratitude for all the love and kindness shown to grandma over the years. We are confident that she is alive in Jehovah’s memory, we find peace, and comfort in the promise, that those in the Memorial Tombs will come out and come to life again. John 5: 28,29.
Grandma will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Peter (Donna), Edward, Danny, Phillip (Suzette); grandchildren, Allison (Jon), Fraser, Kirsten (Derek), Bethany (Yann), Lindsay (Remi), Zachary, Joshua (Nicki), Markus (Amber), Aaron (Vincenza), Rebekah (Goran); great-grandchildren, Finley, Cashous, Ezra, Tristan, Sophia, as well as other family and friends. Grandma was pre-deceased by her daughter-in-law Sandy.
A memorial service will take place at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses (11 Bennett Street Red Deer Alberta) on July 20, 2024, at 2:00 pm. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be livestreamed on Zoom, the meeting ID is 890 9631 3693 and the password is 348317.
