John Wright

Obituary of John Lyle Wright

With great sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John Lyle (Jack) Wright at the age of 76 years. John passed away quietly in his sleep at his home, at Taylor View Towers in Red Deer, Alberta on March 12, 2024.

John and his twin brother James (Jim) were born on September 30, 1947 in Cut Knife, Saskatchewan to Richard “Lewis” Wright and Edith Annie Wright. They were the first set of twins to ever be born at Cut Knife hospital.

Lewis and Edith had a large family of nine children, eight boys and one girl. They raised their family and lived in the Cut Knife area for many years until later in life when they moved to Red Deer, Alberta to live with John.

After his school years, John drove a school bus for the county of Cut Knife, Saskatchewan. Then he went to work for Finlay’s Hardware in Cut Knife.

John went on a farm exchange program that took him to New Zealand to work on a sheep farm for six months.

John then made the decision to move west to Alberta. First, he worked at Canadiana, selling automotive parts. Then he went to work in the parts department at Red Deer Motors. He continued working there for many years and through several changes in ownership from Red Deer Motors to Pike Wheaton Chev Olds and finally to Wheaton Chevrolet. He retired at the age of 71.

John loved to travel and he even once had his pilot's license and he owned a small plane. For many years, John was an avid cyclist and he loved to ride his bike to many small communities in central Alberta. He also loved to keep physically fit and he spent many hours at the gym working out. He loved to tinker with vehicles and engines in his garage at home in his spare time.

John absolutely loved dogs, although he never owned one himself. He was always happy if visitors brought their dogs to visit and he would make a big fuss over them all. He often looked after people’s dogs when their owners were away.

John had a wonderful sense of humour. He loved to laugh and have fun. John never did get married and he had no children of his own. He loved his family very much. He lived with and lovingly cared for his parents in their later years until their passing. He was a wonderful brother, uncle and friend.

John was predeceased by his parents, Edith Annie Wright in July, 1999 and Richard Lewis Wright in January 2000. His twin brother James Wright passed away in November 2023. He was also predeceased by several other brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

At the time of his death, John left to mourn his passing, those family members closest to him: Ron and Theresa Wright, Jenna, Chris and baby Liam Penney, Megan Wright, Tyler and baby Sophia Cox, Arlene Wright (wife of his twin brother James). He will be lovingly remembered by many surviving brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews, and extended family as well as many friends and acquaintances.

In accordance with John’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. Cremation services have been entrusted to Meaningful Memorials Funeral Service in Red Deer. John will be laid to rest at a later date in Cut Knife, Saskatchewan, along with his twin brother James who passed away in November. They were born together and they will be interred together.
