Obituary of Patricia Marie Dillabaugh
With profound sadness, the family of Patricia Dillabaugh regretfully announce the passing of their beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, and aunt, at the age of 88 years, on Monday, January 15, 2024.
Pat was born in Calgary in 1935, to Bob and Lou McPhillamey. Pat was the second child and only daughter in the family, followed by three younger brothers. The family moved multiple times during her childhood, including stays in Fort Smith, Yellowknife, and Black Diamond, prior to moving to Coleville SK in 1953. Where she then met and married William Dillabaugh in November of 1954.
Pat and Bill built a future for themselves in Coleville. They were blessed with the addition of Allan, Karen, Richard, and Glen as the family farm grew. Working as a team, Pat and Bill in the early years actively worked the land, raised livestock, and promoted their registered angus cattle. As time went on, Pat remained Bill’s business partner and both gave credit to the other that the farm would not have been successful without the other. Pat was instrumental in the success of the farm corporation, which remains active today.
In 1988, Pat ventured into the travel business and was an active travel consultant first in Saskatoon, then with Sears Travel in Red Deer until her retirement. Pat loved to travel with friends or family and was able to see many parts of the world through the years, including, Europe, China, Mexico, United States, South America, and the Caribbean. In addition to her love of travel, she was always happy to entertain. Known for her ability to serve up a fantastic meal on short notice and knowing she always had home-made cookies, pies, loafs and buns readily available, all enjoyed her hospitality. Her grandchildren will dearly miss the cookie jar, that was always full. No one ever left her home hungry. Meals, fellowship, and snacks were often accompanied by a jug of Ceasars and game of cards. She loved family and spoilt all who entered her home, right up to, and through Christmas and New Years of 2023/24.
Pat is survived by her children, Karen of Red Deer, Richard (Heather) of Saskatoon, and Glen (Charlene) of Red Deer; daughter-in-Law Sharon (Saskatoon); grandchildren Braden, Jared, Austin, Quinn, Taylor, and Teneal; brothers Jim (Joan), and Terry (Ruth); sister-n-Law Helen; as well as by her many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who will all hold fond memories of her in their hearts.
Pat was predeceased by her parents Bob and Lou; brothers Gerry and Bob Jr; and by her son Allan.
In lieu of a formal service, Pat requested individual remembrances. The family and friends will be holding an interment for her in Coleville in early summer. Condolences to Pat’s family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net. Please indicate “Dillabaugh” in the subject line.
