Obituary of Conrad David Maki
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Conrad David Maki, who was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend to many. Conrad departed from this world on December 21, 2023 at the age of 52. He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of his family, after a lengthy and inspiring battle with cancer.
Conrad is dearly missed and survived by his wife, Linda Murrell-Maki; children, Cody (Shay), Logan, Jace, Haily, Jade, and Armoni; grandchild, Rory; mother, Carol; brothers, Cameron and David (Laurel); nephews, Corey and Lucas; Uncle, Gary (Peggy); Aunts, Lynn, Sandra (Leni), Jackie (David) and Marlene; numerous cousins and friends who became family. He is predeceased by his father, Lyle.
Conrad was born in Red Deer, Alberta and spent many of his childhood years in Tofield. As an adult, he lived in Edmonton before later settling in Blackfalds, Alberta. There, Conrad built a life filled with love, who he shared with his beautiful wife, Linda. Together, they had a daughter, Armoni, and a large, blended family, which included many children and a grandbaby. They were nurturing foster parent’s who treasured the children they cared for and their families. Their home was always overflowing with love, kindness, and laughter, which created an uplifting and welcoming atmosphere for all. Conrad also settled into a fulfilling career as a millwright at Evraz, where he was highly regarded as a hard worker and skilled leader.
Conrad found fulfillment through his family and friends, helping others and his strong devotion to God. As a dedicated husband and father, his unwavering love knew no bounds. He took immense pride in these roles, cherishing every moment spent and memory made. His optimism, patience, and kind-hearted nature were a source of strength for his family during both happy and challenging times. He was a generous friend and was always ready to lend a helping hand, without hesitation or expectation. Conrad was passionate about helping others and through his passion, he impacted countless lives, leaving behind a trail of kindness and compassion that will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He lived his daily life with a level of love and gratitude that most of us could only aspire to.
Conrad loved the outdoors, whether he was soaking up the sun on a beach in Mexico, out camping in the woods with family and friends, or spending time in his own backyard with good company. He was a loyal fan of the Edmonton Oilers and Eskimo’s, and wore their apparel with pride everywhere he went. His passion for politics, diverse interests and life experiences made him a well-rounded person who could connect with people from all walks of life.
Conrad will be deeply missed by all those who loved him. His exceptional character, enduring spirit and cherished memories provide comfort to his family and friends during this difficult time. He made a lasting impact on the lives of many and through this, his legacy will live on and continue to inspire us all.
Please join us for a celebration of life that will be held in Conrad’s honour at Potter’s Hands [5202 53rd Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta] on January 20, 2024 at 1pm. Parking is across the street and light refreshments will be provided. There will be an Oilers theme, so please wear your Oilers/sports clothing and there will also be an opportunity to share funny stories, memories, and say a few words about Conrad. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that donations are made to support a trust fund set up for Conrad and Linda’s 14-year-old daughter, Armoni. Donations can be sent via etransfer to Linda-Murrell@hotmail.com or in person, at Conrad’s celebration of life.
