Obituary of Donna Marjorie Murphy
Donna Marjorie Murphy (née Debienne), mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2023, in Red Deer, Alberta, at the age of 91.
Donna was the proud mother of six children: Timothy, Michael (d. Loretta), Kelly (Bev), Tyler (Colette), Shelley (Bob Sutton), and Darren. Her pride and joy grew with the arrival of fourteen grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Loretta.
Donna was born on September 9, 1932, to Ina and Joseph Debienne in Estevan, Saskatchewan. After graduating from Estevan Collegiate High School, Donna worked for SaskTel until she married and moved to Redvers, Saskatchewan, to start her family.
Donna began her life with her children in Redvers before moving her family to Kamloops, British Columbia. She eventually settled in Alberta, first in Calgary and later in Red Deer. Donna’s favourite role was that of “mother”; although, she also worked tirelessly outside the home. Donna worked at Sears until she found her niche at 3M. After eleven joyful years, Donna retired from 3M and spent her leisure time visiting with family, reading books, and socializing with friends. Until her health and mobility decreased significantly, Donna continued to be the active matriarch of her family, keeping dispersed families together through her daughter, Shelley Sutton.
Donna will be remembered for the sparkle in her eyes, her ready laugh, and her love for her family.
The family would like to thank the staff at Extendicare Michener Hill in Red Deer as well as Companions for Seniors for all the care and support they provided for Donna.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring to allow out-of-province family to travel safely to celebrate Donna’s life and legacy.
Condolences to Donna’s family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net . Please indicate “Murphy“ in the subject line.
