Obituary of Daniel Anson Lawrence

Daniel Anson Lawrence, a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on November 2, 2023, in his hometown of Red Deer. He was born on August 11, 1931, to his loving parents, Gladys and Cecil "Sykes." Growing up, Dan shared his childhood with his two brothers, John (later married Marjorie) and Richard “Dick” (later married Mary). He was preceded in death by his brother Dick, who left this world at an early age, leaving a void that was felt deeply by the Lawrence family.

Dan's journey began in the picturesque Pine Lake area, where he spent his formative years and attended primary school in Pine Lake. He continued his education at Lindsay Thurber Composite High School in Red Deer, where he laid the foundation for a life filled with diverse accomplishments.

In 1954, Daniel was blessed with the arrival of his daughter, Elizabeth "Marie," who sadly passed away in 2007, and a few years later, in 1957, Dan was blessed with his son David. Dan's commitment to his children was steadfast, always ready to provide guidance throughout their lives.

Dan began his professional journey as a farmer, and his love and strong connection to farming was a lifelong passion that he continued through to retirement.

Dan's entrepreneurial spirit led him to operate Tent Town in Pine Lake, a place where countless memories were made, and the community came together for various gatherings. He left an indelible mark on Pine Lake's history, and his legacy will be remembered fondly.

As his journey evolved, Dan transitioned into the world of real estate. He was dedicated to helping families find their dream homes, a reflection of his caring and compassionate nature.

Another significant chapter in Dan's life saw him operating Lawrence Auctions, where his skills as a businessman and auctioneer created successful events that brought people from all walks of life together. His passion for connecting people and making meaningful exchanges shone through in this endeavor.

Dan, then, began a new venture, acquiring Carling's Brewery from the City of Red Deer. He dedicated countless hours to rebuilding the Brewery, turning it into an iconic building and a future rental opportunity for the community.

In 1978, Dan married Phyllis Murray, and together they embarked on a journey filled with love, laughter, and shared experiences. This union brought together two families—Dan's children, Marie (David) and David, and Phyllis's children, Cyril (Rose), Wayne, Patricia (Paul), and Darcy (Lisa). Dan and Phyllis went on to share many cherished moments with their shared children and spouses, grandchildren and spouses, great-grandchildren, and Dan and Phyllis’s extended families and friends.

Dan's commitment to his community was further exemplified during his time as a Red Deer City Councillor, serving multiple terms from 1980-1995. He was instrumental in the planning through to the opening of the Red Deer Centrium. His tireless dedication to public service was a testament to his love for Red Deer and its residents.

Daniel Anson Lawrence will be remembered for his love for Phyllis and their families and friends, his dedication to his community, and his diverse and successful career pursuits. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, determination, and a deep commitment to those he held dear. Dan's memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Family and friends are invited to attend to pay their respects and share their memories of this remarkable man. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Deer Park Alliance Church, 2960 - 39 St, Red Deer AB.
