Obituary of Larry James Kneeland
Larry Kneeland of Red Deer, Alberta, passed away on September 8, 2023, at the age of 78.
Larry was born in Castor, Alberta in the September of 1944. He didn’t grow up in Castor, instead the family often moved, and he was raised throughout Alberta. In 1966, he joined the Air Force and was stationed for some time in Alsask, Alberta. It was here that he met Bev Gutenberg. When Larry was transferred to North Bay, Ontario, Bev went with him. Shortly after they were married and their daughter, Stacy, was born. Larry would leave the Air Force in 1973, and move the family to Red Deer, where he found employment at K&K Transport until it’s closure.
Bev and Larry separated in 1980, and Larry picked up ballroom dancing. After years of taking lessons, and teaching small classes at the Red Deer College and surrounding towns, he opened his own studio. The Larry Kneeland School of Social Dancing, in downtown Red Deer. He would later retire in the mid 2010’s after having spent 35+ years working at the local Express 24. Throughout his life, he was an avid collector of coins, and spent many hours perfecting his collection. And he was equally passionate about his cars.
Larry will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Stacy (Trevor) Kneeland-Rogers; grandchildren River Kneeland, Akira Kneeland, Trinity Kneeland-Young, and Nathaniel Kneeland; brothers George and Blair Kneeland; sister Gay Backen; aunt Beth Tribault; nieces Brenda and Juliet; nephews Jason and Shelby; as well as by many cousins and close friends.
As per Larry’s wishes, no formal service is to be held. In lieu of flowers or memorial donations, the family asks that those wishing to memorialize Larry plant a tree instead. Condolences to Larry’s family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net. Please indicate “Kneeland” in the subject line.
