Obituary of Ann Patricia Barlow

On September 1st, 2023, Ann Patricia Barlow was reunited with her husband Tom in heaven’s eternity. She was born in Nottingham, England in 1943 and came to Canada in 1950 with her mother and step-father, Dorothy and Bud Lees, Taking the train across Canada to Edmonton. She attended school in Edmonton and after graduation, moved to Red Deer. In the early 60’s she went to work for the Commerce Bank for a few years and then worked at AGT, earning the position of Assistant Manager.

It was at AGT that she met her future husband, Tom Barlow, and they were married in 1977 at which time she retired from AGT. After marriage Ann worked part time at Colonial Manor and at Ward’s Jewellers. Ann loved to quilt and belonged to the Central Alberta Quilt Guild and Cronquist Quilters and was a member of Telecom Pioneers. She also loved making cards for her family and friends. Ann volunteered selling poppies for the Royal Canadian legion and collected the money from the CNIB donation dogs.

Ann is survived by her nieces Margaret (Barry) Brown of Cornwall, England, Jan (Chris) Oliver of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and Lorna Doan of Edmonton, Alberta; nephews Lloyd (Eve) Lees of Surrey, B.C., Warren (Vanessa) Lees of Calgary, Alberta, Andy (Sue) Huntley of Edmonton, Alberta, David Lees of Ladysmith, B.C., Lorne Lees of B.C., and Kevin Lees of Edmonton, Alberta, Les Barlow of Vancouver B.C. and by her niece and best friend Dianne Briers; as well as by all her grand nieces and grand nephews and all of her great grand nieces and great grand nephews.

Ann was predeceased by her husband Tom; step-sisters Joan Huntley, and May Briers; step-brothers Geoff Lees, Ted Lees, and Jack Lees; as well as by her mother and step-father, and by all her sibling’s spouses.

She is lovingly remembered by all of her family, by her many quilting friends, and by her friends at Telecom Pioneers.

A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of CrossRoads Church, (SW corner of 32 St and highway 2), 38105 Range Road 275, Red Deer County, AB on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. For those wishing to attend, please enter by the Chapel doors on the north east side of the church.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff and health care aids of the emergency ward, wards 32 and 31, and Doctors Pimm, Brar, Carlahan, and Tang at the Red Deer Regional Hospital and Red Deer Hospice for their kindness.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Ann’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the Red Deer Hospice Society or to the Central Alberta Humane Society.
