Obituary of Serena Christine Olsen
Serena Christine Olsen of Red Deer, AB passed away at the Michener Extended Care Centre on July 18, 2023, at the age of 85 years.
Serena was born April 8, 1938, to Arthur and Helen Moen on the family farm in Bardo, Alberta. She lived in many Alberta communities during her lifetime (Sedgwick, Killam, Edmonton, Calgary) and settled in Red Deer over 40 years ago.
She lived a busy life, worked in many positions (administration, bank teller, real estate, seamstress) and was involved in many organizations, often holding board positions. Most recently, until her health declined, served a 2-year term on the Central Alberta Co-op board – she was very proud of opportunities to serve on board positions. Her many interests included curling (35+ years), music (singing, playing piano, choir director) and sewing.
Serena will be lovingly remembered by her spouse Ed Irwin; sons Kevin Olsen (Helen), Brent Olsen (Kim) and Greg Irwin (Pat); brothers Arlo Moen (Kathi), David Moen and Philip Morn; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Serena was predeceased by her parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the auditorium at Michener Extendicare, 12 - Michener Blvd, Red Deer, AB on Saturday, September 16, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Heart and Stroke or Canadian Diabetes Foundations.
