Evelyne Fairbrother

Obituary of Evelyne Ellen Fairbrother

Evelyne Ellen Fairbrother of Red Deer passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on May 30, 2023 at the age of 80 years. Evelyne was born at Castor, Alberta on March 9th, 1943 to Ella and Arthur Shannon. She was raised on the family farm near Halkirk and took her early schooling there. When she was 8, the family moved to a farm just outside of Leslieville. It was there, when she was 9 that her father passed away. In 1955 the family moved to Lloydminster to be near her father’s sisters and returned to Red Deer in the summer of 1956.

She attended high school in Red Deer and then made the decision to move to Lloydminster where she met the love of her life, Wesley Allan Fairbrother. They were married on July 22, 1961 and so began an eventual 62 years of wonderful memories together. They welcomed their first daughter, Corinna Lynn on January 9th, 1963. The new family then moved back to Red Deer in 1964 and they welcomed their second daughter, Tannis Lenore, on January 27th, 1966. The third daughter, Shannon Loreen, completed the family on March 24, 1969.

Evelyne returned to work initially at the Alpha Dairy Pool, and then did bookkeeping/secretarial work for Peacock Inn/Kentucky Fried Chicken. This was followed by bookkeeping/secretarial work with the United Church in Sunnybrook. The family then moved to Lloydminster in 1978 after Wes had a transfer with his job and she became the bookkeeper/secretary at Firestone Tire where she made many new lifetime friends. Many camping and fishing trips were had over these years with special memories made.  The family returned to Red Deer in 1982 where mom started work with Jordan’s Carpets where she remained until she retired in 2000.

Then began the wonderful years filled with travel and visiting friends and family all over. The motorhome was well used and they were able to travel all across Canada and all the way down to Mazatlan for several years. California, Arizona, and many more destinations. The memories made during this time will be treasured forever. Mom was always busy doing something and was never short on hobbies. She enjoyed gardening, painting, knitting and most of all quilting. She was also very involved in the Genealogy Society in Red Deer and made many good friends there and within her quilting group. We all have some treasured quilts that she has made each of us with love.

Family was extremely important to her. She always made efforts to keep in contact with all the extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews. She hosted many Christmases, Easters and Thanksgivings; attended many hockey and ringette games and karate tournaments; took all her grandchildren camping many times and never missed an opportunity to see her great grandson.

Evelyne will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Wesley; daughters: Corinna (Paul), Tannis (Simon), Shannon (Rob); seven grandchildren: Laura; Megan, Nadine, Karen and Leah; Derek and Reid; and 2 great grandchildren: Tate and Charli, as well as, her sister Beryl Shannon, many nieces, nephews and friends.

A come and go Celebration of Life will be held on July 8, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Hozizon Village Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to The Salvation Army. Condolences to Evelyne’s family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net. Please indicate “Fairbrother” in the subject line.
