Obituary of Genevieve Richards
Genevieve Richards of Red Deer AB, passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on April 12, 2023, at the age of 78 years.
Genevieve was born in Fox Valley, Saskatchewan in 1944. Born to a Polish and Ukrainian family, her first language was Polish, which she spoke until she was five. Her family lived and worked on a farm outside of the village. At the age of 16, she moved away from Fox Valley to Edmonton to join her sister Josephine. In Edmonton, she began training as an LPN, which led to work in a medical laboratory. On February 1, 1972, Jennie went on a blind date organized by a friend from her church youth group. A year and a day later, she and Eldon were married, and spent the next 50 years raising children and travelling together. Jennie leaves behind a legacy of inspiration, crafting, creativity, and life-long appreciation of the joys of looking after one’s family.
Jennie will be lovingly remembered by her husband Eldon; daughter Katie (James) Wright and their children Grace, Thomas, and Evan; sons Benjamin (Alicja) Richards and their child Hannah, Lukas (Glenda) Richards and their children Ariel, Jakob, and Isaak. Also to cherish Jennie’s memory are sisters Mary Hassman, Kathy Kulscar and Jo Albinati as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her brother Alec Domaretzki.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Jennie’s life will be held at the Red Deer First Baptist Church, 4310 – 39 St, Red Deer, AB on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the Masonic Higher Education Bursary Fund, PO Box 95104, Whyte PO, Edmonton AB T6E 0E5.
