Obituary of Tammy Lee Christensen
Tammy Lee Christensen passed away peacefully on November 18, 2022, at the Red Deer Hospice Society.
Born in 1963 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan to the famously hardworking couple Bob and Bev Gangl, Tammy spent most of her childhood in Lacombe, Alberta, and it was in Lacombe in March of 2004 where Tammy would be set up by friends on a very fortuitous date with her future husband and the love of her life, Dale Christensen. Dale, who adored Tammy, had such a genuine and tender love for her—a love that inspired all who came into their lives.
Tammy’s daughter’s Courtney (Jeff) MacLeod and Kelli (Locke) Jardine-Muller reside in Calgary and Kelowna respectively. Tammy was not just Courtney and Kelli’s mother, but also their deepest confidant and cheerleader. She was absolutely overjoyed with the arrival of her granddaughter Lou in 2020, or “Lou Bear!” as Tammy joyfully tagged her.
Tammy and Dale spent most of their years together in Red Deer and finally settled at “The Cabin” on Mara lake, Sicamous. Tammy and Dale’s lake house was the definition of welcoming. Whether it was close family or friends like her loving and supportive sister Jacqueline (Allen) Rees, friends of friends, or even distantly related cousins of friends, Tammy made sure that everyone was comfortable, well-fed and happy.
In 2001, Tammy was diagnosed with Scleroderma, an autoimmune disease, and it was her wish that donations be made in lieu of flowers to sclerodermacanada.ca. She valiantly battled the disease for twenty-one years and her courage was a testament to her character; Tammy modeled hope and bravery that would be incomprehensible to all but the most fearless. Her loyalty and passion for life was exactly what endeared Tammy to her many life-long friends; friends who will grieve, yet celebrate, the beautiful person who they have loved for so many years.
When Tammy passed one milestone, she simply set another goal and strove towards its accomplishment with astounding determination. On July 31, 2022, she set and achieved one of her most important goals—attending Kelli and Locke’s wedding in Kelowna, BC–where she looked absolutely radiant while delivering a beautifully heartfelt speech welcoming Locke into the family.
