Obituary of Keith (Gary) Smart

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Keith (Gary) Smart of Penhold, Alberta. Keith passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on April 19, 2022 at the age of 64 years, following a long battle with cancer.

Keith was born in Hampshire, England in 1958 to parents Cecil and Phyllis (Moore) Smart. He worked as a civilian in the British military for years. He moved to Canada in March 1992 and worked for many years as a cabinet finisher. He was known for his devotion to his family, friends and, of course, the Coventry City Football Club back home in England.

Keith was an amazing partner, father, grandfather and friend who will be deeply missed. As his family, we are grateful we were able to be with him when he passed – and that he was still able to crack a joke. Although we are all sad that he has passed, there is a comfort in knowing he is no longer in pain.

Keith is lovingly remembered by wife Barbara Laybourne; sons Gary Smart and Jade Laybourne (Leah); grandchildren Rosie, Baylee and Alyssa; and sisters Jean, Eileen and Ruth.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 3001 Minto Street in Penhold, Alberta on Saturday, May 21, 2022 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Drop in as you please.
