I have several fond memories of Tim dating back to the late ‘90’s when we would spend many hours at his hanger in Lacombe when my dad was building his own plane. My brothers and I managed to stay out of trouble while doing what little boys do while dad and Tim talked for hours. I remember all the paintings and there always seemed to be one on the easel. His big lab “Boomer” at the time could nearly knock us over with his powerful tail but it was his fart that nearly ended us all while driving in his big ol car once. Tim’s artists ‘eye’ is something I refer to often as when he built his loft perfectly by the tape measure it just didn’t look right so he made necessary adjustments so it looked straight even tho it wasn’t.
My fondest memory tho was when dad was helping him fix the defrost system on a twin engine airplane and we all got a ride to ponoka and back to test it out. Tim let me hold the controls on final approach and I’ll never forget that. After that flight I badly burnt my hand on the heated pitot tube and after Tim noticed there was something wrong reminded me that when you’re hurt, let someone know right away!
In my adult life I visited a few times at the hanger in ponoka while I lived there and always looked up and smiled when I heard that biplane putting on a show.
While saddened to hear of his death I’m sure no amount of aerobatics can compare to the airshow he’s up to now.
