Obituary of Dalton Earl McCambley
Dalt died peacefully at the Red Deer Hospice on July 28, 2021 at the age of 87 years with Mary by his side. He was born in Ottawa, and graduated from Ottawa Tech high school. As an avid basketball player he participated in 7 National championship teams. He was predeceased by his parents: Eady and Laurena McCambley, and sister Wendy Roe. He was a loving husband and father, and is survived by Mary, his best friend & wife of 40+ years, and his son, Scott McCambley (Welland, Ont)
Dalt leaves to mourn Brothers & sisters in laws; Robert( Mary Pat) Dickson (Vancouver); John Dickson (Bernadette Engel)(Edmonton), and Tom (Denise Brisson) Dickson (Edmonton); as well as many special nieces, nephews and 2 special godchildren, as well as many friends.
Dalt was a passionate political “junkie” of National and Provincial & Municipal politics, having been on the board of Red Deer with MP Bob Mills, and Red Deer North MLA MaryAnn Jablonski for 14 years. He proudly read up to 6 newspapers per day to ensure he got “the right message” and there wasn’t a political person safe from his emails, and letters to the editor. If anyone expressed a particular interest in a subject, they would become the beneficiary of articles from “the clipper”
He was a board member of Rural RCMP Victim Services, and a member of the Optimist clubs “Just Say No program” in Red Deer schools. Dalt was a very committed member of his parish of St. Leonards Anglican Church, holding several roles on parish council as well as other committees.
Dalt ran his Dustbane/Midwest franchise as well as working with other companies in Alberta supplying equipment and cleaning supplies to hospitals and school divisions, giving workshops on the proper use and maintenance for many years. He ran the Canadian Organization of Small business in central Alberta, and became friends with many business people in the area. For 10 years, he ran Brian Tracy personal development seminars in Red Deer.
In the 80s, he enjoyed coaching young basketball players with the youth basketball program at the YMCA. He loved camping, travelling to Mexico, the Red Deer Rebels, and taking his dogs for walks at three mile bend, and he looked forward to meeting his buddies at the gym to exercise, then solve the problems of the world over coffee.
The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Bouch for his wonderful compassionate care, and the Red Deer Hospice for their very loving care of Dalt and Mary, in the last weeks of his life.
A memorial service will be held at St. Leonard's on the Hill Anglican Church, 4241 - 44 St. Red Deer, Alberta on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Red Deer Hospice, 99 - Arnot Avenue, Red Deer AB T4R 3S6 or to St Leonard’s on the Hill Anglican Church, 4241- 44 St., Red Deer, AB, T4N 1H3.
